Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI (YUVAi)

Context: Top-10 finalists of YUVAi showcased their AI-based social impact projects during the GPAI summit. 

About YUVAi

  • YUVAi is the national program for equipping school students from classes 8-12 with essential AI skills on a pan India basis and empower them to become human-centric designers and users of AI. 
  • This program offers an applied learning experience for students to understand and identify how AI technology can be used to tackle critical problems. 
  • YUVAi is a collaborative initiative of National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) and Intel India. 
  • This program will be ongoing throughout the year to give maximum number of students a chance to empower themselves to be future-ready.

Objectives of YUVAi Program

  • Foster a deep understanding of AI-tech and social skills.
  • Enable youth to develop AI-enabled solutions as a sign of achievement.
  • Empower youth to become human-centric designers and users of AI.

Key features of YUVAi Program

YUVAi program is implemented in three phases. This program is being implemented in multiple cohorts to ensure that maximum students stand a chance to become future-ready. 

Phase 1 (Online Orientation): 

  • Teachers will be on-boarded for the Program through self-nomination basis. Online orientation sessions will be conducted for registered students around core AI concepts by experts to facilitate understanding of ideation process. 
  • Certificate of Participation will be available for students to download through program web portal post completion of online orientation.
  • Students will be encouraged to submit ideas through a 120 second video explaining a proposed AI enabled solution for the following 8 themes:
    • Krishi - AI in Agriculture
    • Aarogya - AI in healthcare
    • Shiksha - AI in education
    • Paryavaran - AI in environment & clean energy
    • Parivahan - AI in transportation
    • Grameen Vikas - AI for rural development
    • AI for smart cities
    • Vidhi aur Nyay - AI in law & justice

Phase 2 (Hands on AI training): 

  • Top 100 AI based solutions from amongst the proposed ones will be evaluated by an independent committee of experts. 
  • Students will be provided with apprenticeship and guidance opportunity on IPR.
  • Most innovative AI-based solutions will be announced and invited to a national showcase and felicitation ceremony.

Phase 3 (Felicitation): 

  • Top 50 shortlisted projects will be invited to attend a 4-day face-to-face rapid modelling workshop, offered mentorships, apprenticeships, and guidance from industry to fine tune their projects and develop them into prototypes. 
  • Top 10 projects will be shortlisted during the face-to-face workshop. These students will get a chance to showcase their projects at a national platform and will be felicitated for their exemplary work.
