What is UPSC Prelims?

UPSC Prelims is the first stage of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in India, conducted by the UPSC. This examination is a gateway to various prestigious positions in the Indian administrative framework, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

  1. Objective Nature: The UPSC Prelims is an objective type examination, consisting of multiple-choice questions.
  2. Two Papers: The exam comprises two papers:
    • General Studies Paper I: Covers subjects like History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment, Science and Technology, and current affairs.
      • Number of Questions: 100 questions.
    • General Studies Paper II (CSAT): Tests comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, decision-making, basic numeracy, and data interpretation skills. It is a qualifying paper.
      • Number of Questions: 80 questions.
