- He was introduced to Ram Prasad Bismil (founder of Hindustan Republican Association) by Manmath Nath Gupta.
- As a member of HRA, he was involved in Kakori Train Robbery of 1925, shooting of John P. Saunders at Lahore in 1928 to avenge killing of Lala Lajpat Rai, and at last, in the attempt to blow up the Viceroy of India's train in 1929.
- He reorganised Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) under its new name Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) after the death of its founder, Ram Prasad Bismil.
About Hindustan Republican Association (1924-40)
- It was an Indian revolutionary organisation founded by Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Sachindra Nath Bakshi, Sachindranath Sanyal and Jogesh Chandra Chatterjee.
- Political vacuum created by abrupt suspension of Non-Cooperation movement led to the formation of revolutionary movements including HRA.
- Yellow paper: name and aim of organisation was written on this paper by Sachindranath Sanyal. This became the constitution of HRA.
- Revolutionary: This was the manifesto of HRA written by Sanyal and distributed among people in 1925. It proposed the overthrow of British colonial rule and its replacement with what it termed a "Federal Republic of the United States of India". In addition, it sought universal suffrage and the socialist-oriented aim of the abolition of "all systems which make any kind of exploitation of man by man possible”.
- HRA established branches in Agra, Allahabad, Benares, Kanpur, Lucknow, Saharanpur and Shahjahanpur.
- Associated conspiracies: Lahore and Kakori conspiracy.
