The total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh is 26. In April 2022, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh introduced 13 new districts under the AP Districts Formation Act. The government has issued a draft notification for introducing these 13 new districts.

Andhra Pradesh has nineteen districts after 5th April 2022, and the number has increased from 13 to 26. The formation of these districts is necessary, said the Chief Minister of AP, Jagan Mohan Reddy, while pointing out that the population of Andhra Pradesh is more than 5 crore people. Regarding this step, Reddy has said that it will also ensure that government schemes are taken directly to the people.
