NARMADA RIVER SYSTEM

- Originates from Amarkantak hills in M.P and flows through a rift valley. Flowing through the rift valley is the major reason that they drain into Arabian sea even though general orientation of the Peninsula is towards the Bay of Bengal.
- Basin states: Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh having an area of 98,796 Sq.km.
- It is bounded by the Vindhyas on the north, by the Maikala range on the east, by the Satpuras on the south and by the Arabian Sea on the west.
- It forms Dhuandhar waterfall.
- Flows into Gulf of Khambat near Bharuch in Gujrat

TAPI RIVER SYSTEM

- Originates from Betul district, M.P
- Situated in the Deccan plateau, the basin is bounded by Satpura range on the north, by the Mahadev hills on the east, by the Ajanta Range and Satmala hills on south and by Arabian Sea on the west.
- Flows through rift valley.
- Basin states: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat having an area of 65,145 Sq.km
- Drains into Gulf of Khambat
