- Background: Launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015 by India and France. Came into force in 2017 on receipt of ratification of 15 countries.
- Membership: It seeks to bring together the countries which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn for harnessing the solar energy. The membership of the ISA has now been extended to UN member countries as well.
- Objective: Global deployment of over 1,000GW of solar generation capacity and mobilisation of investment of over US$ 1000 billion into solar energy by 2030.
- Recent initiatives
- World Solar Bank: dedicated financing window for solar energy projects across the members of ISA.
- One Sun One World One Grid: Interconnected green grid that will enable solar energy generation in regions with high potential and facilitate its evacuation to demand centres.
